Pfeiffer students take Spring Break
to work for Habitat
Most
people wouldn't consider spending their Spring Break
helping other people by giving of their time and energy
to Habitat For Humanity. That wasn't the case for several
students and staff members from Pfeiffer University
who spent their spring break working on several Habitat
projects.
We started
the week by cleaning out the storage facility and meeting
new friends (including a few four legged ones.) Thankfully
we were blessed with a future engineer and some volunteers
with a previous knowledge of tools. One student slowly
accepted the challenge to design and build a rack for
easy storage and organization of wood. Another student
tried her hand at space design and organization as well
as collaborating on an exquisite solution to the abundance
of yard tools. Still other students lent hands for moving
out, sorting and purging the contents of the shed.
As the
week continued we constructed walls for the roof of
the Habitat office, working in small groups to complete
each wall, while working closely with some pros in the
field. We finished the week with some heavy lifting
and setting trusses on the roof, praying through each
step for safety and stable knees! I can proudly say
that each person learned something new from their experience
with Habitat. It may have been how to use a hammer,
or that they really could overcome their fear of heights,
but no matter what they learned it will be something
they and I will never forget. Thank you Stanly County
Habitat For Humanity for allowing us to make memories
that will last us a lifetime.
